Mollie has taken the next step in its development with its new product “Mollie Capital” – namely from a pure payment service provider to a comprehensive financial service provider. With this new offer, Mollie offers small and medium-sized online retailers fast and flexible funding, an unbureaucratic alternative to conventional bank loans.

SMEs often face greater challenges when it comes to financing than large corporations. Traditional loans can be time-consuming and complicated – and come with high interest rates. That's why Mollie launched Mollie Capital in December 2022, a fast and flexible financing option for e-commerce companies. The aim is to help e-commerce SMEs achieve sustainable growth by simply providing capital. The best part: There are no hidden fees or ongoing interest rates. Instead, there is just a fee that Mollie users know in advance.

In order to actively support medium-sized companies in the e-commerce sector in particular in their sustainable growth, such as GmbH & Co. KG from Recklinghausen, they can apply for financing of up to 250,000 euros. The application is submitted with just a few clicks and is usually processed on the same or next day. No interest is paid for the financing, but rather a one-off fixed amount (monthly and dependent on sales so as not to hinder the company's further growth).

Mollie Capital's service is free for Mollie customers. Customers can apply for a capital amount of up to €250,000 via the Mollie platform. The decisive factor for the decision is the transaction history with Mollie (the more recurring sales, the higher the amount offered). The repayment rate is calculated as a percentage of the customer's daily sales, meaning they never have to pay back more than they can handle (more when business is going well, less when it slows down).

Distinction from the competition

Small and medium-sized e-commerce businesses have been and continue to be underserved by traditional lenders such as banks (high rejection rates and lengthy, complicated processes). As a result, they were hardly able to invest in strategic developments (e.g. optimizing their online shop, personalized marketing activities or customer loyalty measures). With the help of Mollie Capital, companies in need of funding no longer have to deal with bureaucratic hurdles. This is not only an important step for individual companies, but for the entire DACH economy.

Mollie Capital is based on sophisticated technology that enables quick decision-making when requesting financing. In addition to the customer's transaction history with Mollie, the algorithm takes into account a variety of factors (confidential information) to ensure that the money is offered upfront based on legitimate, automated reasoning.

The presented use case can be easily scaled. Because the Mollie Capital tool has been designed to efficiently help each and every customer who needs financial support. To date, Mollie has more than 1000 merchants financed through Mollie Capital and significantly helped them to further expand their business.
