In futuristically designed rooms, the GS1 Germany Knowledge Center offers a physical learning space for exploring the metaverse and Web3. The Metaverse Experience by GS1 Germany makes the trend tangible and shows concrete potential for 90.000 companies. The project was implemented with 50 people, from carpenters to sound designers, interior builders, experts and designers. For many of our customers, the "Metaverse" trend is a mystery and poses great challenges as well as the difficulty of gaining neutral access, learning and trying out. GS1 aims, together with the GS1 community, to bring customers closer to the dimensions, customer groups and mechanisms in the metaverse and to make them tangible, to identify relevant success factors and to be able to assess potential.

Distinction from the competition

As enablers, we explain the mechanics of the Metaverse to our community and learn together. For our community, the topic is existential in the next 10-15 years. Why shouldn't we deal with it? The Metaverse offers us the unique opportunity to link physical and virtual worlds and thus create a new dimension of interaction. Community building and gaming form the bridge with which we bring people with individual needs from different parts of the world together and create a shared experience that would be impossible in the physical world. It is important to understand that the Metaverse is much more than just another virtual sales channel. Users are connected and can design worlds and products themselves. Retailers should take advantage of this unique feature. But not only the options of the shopper is changing: also logistics can be made more efficient by enabling real-time data, simulation and collaboration in virtual collaboration.

Product or service innovations

As a neutral standardization company, GS1 must understand the future of product data in the digital and virtual world. This includes understanding our customers' plans and ensuring widespread adoption of GS1 standards in global digital commerce and the metaverse. Additionally, in order to maintain its status as a vital and trusted organization, GS1 must also explore new standards and protocols for exchanging data in the Metaverse, benefiting its mission to establish global standards for supply chain management and e-commerce. Our GS1 standards such as Digital Link already connect the virtual and physical world and enable additional access to information that is becoming increasingly important for users. These will be integrated into experiences in the future.
