Billie is the leading provider of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) payment solutions for business customers. The Berlin-based fintech enables online stores to offer businesses and public institutions the most popular payment method in B2B commerce: Payment by invoice. Billie’s sophisticated AI-powered risk models allow real-time credit approval for buyers, with shopping cart limits of up to €100,000, while providing full payment default and fraud risk protection for online merchants. Billie's payment solutions aim to simplify the purchasing experience for businesses and make it a scalable tool for growth.
Billie was founded in 2016 by former Zencap founders Dr. Matthias Knecht and Dr. Christian Grobe, as well as Aiga Senftleben and other experienced fintech experts in Berlin. With Aiga Senftleben in the management, Billie is one of the few Fintech companies that are run by a woman. The company employs over 180 people from 46 countries. In 2022 alone, over 200.000 companies have paid online with Billie.
Billie is the first provider to recognize the added value of BNPL for business customers and pioneered the technology in building the first BNPL solution for B2B. Our unique scoring engine excels at identifying companies and institutions of all shapes and sizes and offers the highest customer acceptance rates (95%) in the B2B BNPL industry. So far, we have received a total of €130m in funding from well-known investors like Dawn Capital, Creandum, Picus and SpeedInvest. In addition, we hold the strongest customer base of all B2B BNPL providers out there, with brands such as Hornbach, GRAVIS or mymuesli, and over 200.000 business buyers in 2022 alone.
While Billie started as a factoring service provider for SMBs in 2016, the company pivoted its product strategy and now exclusively offers a BNPL solution for B2B checkouts. In late 2021, Billie announced its partnership with Klarna. Through the cooperation, online stores are now able to offer their business customers Billie's BNPL payment methods via their existing Klarna integration.
Before leading tool retailer Contorion implemented Billie in their checkout, the company used a payment provider for invoice purchasing. But the acceptance rate was too low and difficult to track. As a result, Contorion had to do payments in advance itself which has been a risky solution in the long term. When the management reached out to Billie for a solution back in 2018 Billie only offered the factoring product but saw the perfect opportunity to expand its product offering and to develop a BNPL solution. Only a couple of months later, Contorion was the first online store offering Billie’s BNPL payment solution for business customers. The Billie integration enabled Contorion to increase revenue by 30%. Contorion’s buyer acceptance rate with Billie is at a very stable 90%, conversion rate has increased by 53%, and the repurchase rate with orders via Billie is 84%.
