JD Worldwide, a subsidiary of JD.com, is a leading technology-driven e-commerce company transforming to become the leading supply chain based technology and service provider. Adhering to the vision of "to become the most trusted international supply chain service provider", JD Worldwide plows in cross-border business, overseas local business and the infrastructure construction of international logistics, overseas warehouses, and other services. For this, we offer (as an all-in-one solution or individually) 1) cross-border shipping, 2) warehousing and fulfillment solutions, 3) comprehensive last-mile delivery solutions.
First, many European companies source their products from China but have faced delivery bottlenecks in recent times. We can help bring their goods over to Germany or another country. We have charter flights for air freight from China to the EU every week, and partner with shipping services to transport goods from China to our warehouses in Germany, and other European countries.
Second, once goods reach our warehouse, we take care of the entire fulfillment – regardless of whether it is a B2B, B2C, or D2C order. Many of our warehouses are automated with robotics solutions, thereby significantly reducing costs and delivery times by increasing efficiency. At this stage, value-added services (e.g. return handling) are also available.
Third, we partner with trusted last-mile delivery service providers in each country to quickly and economically deliver goods directly from our warehouse to our merchants’ domestic and international customers.
First, having experience as a logistics service provider and as an online retailer and marketplace, we can provide more targeted logistics solutions than our competition. As a subsidiary of JD.com, a large online retailer and marketplace, we understand the ins and outs of e-commerce – and we know where the challenges are. Therefore, we can leverage the multidisciplinary expertise of our employees to provide more targeted logistics solutions that solve real problems for our clients.
Second, we are equally a technology company as we are a logistics company. We have our own technology-innovation team, we build and improve our own software and warehouse management system based on our practical experience and develop our own warehouse automation solutions. This way, we constantly self-improve and can flexibly and rapidly implement customers’ demands (see our case study below).
Third, while most of our competitors are focused on a few selected markets, JD Worldwide allows merchants to sell globally. We currently have 50 (bonded and non-bonded) warehouses in the EU, the UK, the USA, Australia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Our international shipping routes cover more than 220 countries and regions. As such, German and global e-commerce sellers can store their products abroad and gain access to completely new markets.
• 10 new warehouses went into operation (in the USA, Netherlands, Germany, France, UK, Vietnam, UAE, Hong Kong, Australia). Most of these warehouses are equipped with automation solutions to reduce shipping times
• Set up over 300 new Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) across our warehouses to partially eliminate the need for picking by hand, hence saving labor costs for clients and decreasing delivery times
• Created a European international logistics team to build up JD’s business and operations in the EU
• Developed a partnership with the OTTO GmbH and eBay to fulfill orders for sellers on these platforms
• New IT connections established with Magento, Shopify, Linker, Buckles, tranSMART
E-Commerce markets have been developing rapidly, particularly over the past years. As such, merchants must quickly adapt to these changing market conditions, also in the area of logistics. One example of this is our new partnership with Hunkemöller and their need for a new logistics solution.
Hunkemöller’s omnichannel has grown so significantly over the past years, that they had to find a new fulfillment partner. Given our experience as China’s largest retailer and supply chain-based technology and service provider, we utilized our expertise in e-commerce and supply chain management to set up a new warehouse for Hunkemöller in the Netherlands. Within just four months, we designed, rented out, and built a partly automated warehouse from scratch into full operation, all according to Hunkemöller’s demands. Today, 120 AGVs are working around the clock to help us process over 10000 orders per day from this warehouse.
